AP-Google Journalism and Technology Scholarship

Provides $20,000 scholarships to six promising undergraduate or graduate students pursuing or planning to pursue degrees at the intersection of journalism, computer science and new media. The program is targeted to individual students creating innovative projects that further the ideals of digital journalism. Deadline: January 27.

Carlos M. Castañeda Journalism Fellowship

Provides a one-year scholarship of $7,000 to a graduate student in journalism who is seeking a career writing in Spanish. Applicants must speak Spanish and use the scholarship at a U.S. university. Deadline: April 15.

ScanDigital Student Photography Scholarship

Students majoring in photography or journalism can apply for a $1,000 scholarship, which seeks to award students who show an interest in making a substantial contribution to the growth of their industry. Deadline: December 31

"Free to Tweet" Scholarship

High school and college students can compete for 22 $5,000 scholarships by tweeting a message of support for the First Amendment. Deadline: December 15

YourLocalSecurity.com Blogging Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a high school senior or college student for the best 500-600 word blog post that tackles the following question: "As the nation approaches its 57th Presidential Election, we're asking the future leaders of this country, students, to define the single most important political issue in this election. Tell us not only what that issue is, but also tell us why and how you propose we come to a solution that benefits the majority?" Deadline: December 31, 2011

WPRNY Video Journalism Scholarship

New York City video production company WPRNY sponsors a nationwide contest offering a $500 scholarship prize to the student or group of students who create the most original and effective video journalism news package about a local small business that is changing the world. Deadline: September 15, 2011

Bodie McDowell Scholarships

The Outdoor Writers Association of America offers scholarships up to $5,000 for student journalists interested in covering the outdoors. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for the annual Bodie McDowell Scholarships. Three or more scholarships will be awarded. Deadline: March 1.

Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Scholars

Awards "recognize outstanding rising high school seniors who have demonstrated an interest in journalism and an abundance of free spirit." One high school junior is selected from each state and the District of Columbia to receive a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to attend journalism conference in D.C. Deadline: February 15

Inter-American Press Association Scholarships

Annual $20,000 award to support journalists and journalism school graduates who are between ages 21 and 35 and who wish to study in and report from a foreign country for a period of one year. Latin American and Caribbean scholars spend one year at a U.S or Canadian journalism school and U.S. or Canadian scholars spend a year studying and reporting in Latin America and the Caribbean. Deadline: December 31

Washington Post High School Writing Seminar and Scholarship Program

Washington, D.C. area high school seniors spend Saturdays in March learning about writing news and feature stories from Post reporters and editors. At program's conclusion, students write a news story and receive critiques. Top two students receive $2,500 college scholarship. Deadline: February 7.

Jack R. Howard Fellowships in International Journalism

Provide full tuition and living assistance to two international journalists, from developing or transitional countries, who otherwise could not afford to study at the school. To qualify for the fellowship, candidates must reside outside the United States and intend to return to their homeland after graduation. Deadline: January 31.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

More than $1 million in scholarships available for middle- and high school students in a variety of writing and arts categories, including journalism, photography, cartooning and film. Deadline: varies.

Sigma Corporation of America Scholarship

Cash gift of $5,000 and $1,000 in Sigma products awarded to a high school senior to advance his or her education and goals toward obtaining a career in photography, photojournalism, graphic arts, design, visual arts, etc. Deadline: February 15.

Ruggles National Right to Work Journalism Scholarship

$2,000 scholarship is given to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in journalism who demonstrates the potential for successful completion of the educational requirements for the degree, and an understanding of voluntarism and the problems of compulsory unionism. Deadline: December 31.

Databazaar Scholarship Fund

A $2,500 travel fund will be awarded to an American college student studying photography, photojournalism, broadcast journalism or film-making, who wishes to travel to South Asia on a visual project. An identical award is also available for a student from South Asia who wants to do a project in the U.S. Deadline: March.

Alexia Foundation Photojournalism Scholarships

Several scholarships worth up to $15,000 are available for undergraduate and graduate students to spend a semester studying photojournalism in London, England. Deadline: early February.

Freedom Forum-NCAA Sports-Journalism Scholarship

Eight $3,000 scholarships are available for college juniors who have career goals in sports journalism and major in journalism or have experience in campus sports journalism. Deadline: December 14.

NYU Study Abroad Journalism Scholarships

The scholarships allows students from a college or university other than NYU who are pursuing a major or minor in journalism, or related field and who plan to enroll in at least two journalism courses at NYU in Prague or NYU in Tel Aviv to receive financial assistance in the form of a $2,000 tuition credit.

National Press Photographers Foundation Scholarships

Offers several scholarships up to $2,000 for students studying photojournalism in college or graduate school. Deadline: March 1.

Gareth Jones Memorial Travelling Scholarship

One postgraduate student will receive a £2,000 scholarship to study journalism at the University of Wales. Applicants from all countries are eligible.

College Columnist Scholarship Contest

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation awards scholarships to two outstanding student newspaper columnists who write for U.S. college or university undergraduate newspapers. First prize is $1,000. Second prize is $500. Deadline: March 1.

RTNDF Electronic Journalism Scholarships

The Radio and Television News Director Foundation offers several scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 for college and graduate students studying journalism and/or interested in pursuing a career in radio or television journalism. Deadline: May 12.

Foreign Press Association Scholarships

Three scholarships are available to foreign graduate students of journalism in the United States: one for $10,000, one for $7,500 and one for $5,000. The awards are meant to encourage the pursuit of a career in journalism focusing on international affairs. Deadline: late December.

Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholarship

$2,000 scholarships given to undergraduate and graduate students who aspire to be a foreign correspondent and submit an essay describing an area of the world outside the U.S. or an international topic the applicant believes deserves more and better media coverage. Deadline: December 1.

David W. Ewald Aviation Journalism Scholarship

The National Business Aviation Association will award $1,000 to a student who is either enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college or university and plans a career in journalism, preferably with an aviation focus. Deadline: August 15.

Society for News Design Foundation Scholarship

Society for News Design is offering a $2,000 scholarship to sophomores, juniors and seniors at any accredited four-year school worldwide who are interested in a career in visual journalism. Deadline: June 13.

Society for Technical Communication Scholarship

$1,500 scholarships awarded to undergraduate and graduate students studying the field of technical communication and attending accredited two- and four-year colleges or universities. Deadline: February 15.

Taylor/Blakeslee Graduate Study Science Journalism Fellowship

$2,000 awards by the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing to students enrolled in U.S. graduate-level science writing programs to help defray the cost of tuition. Deadline: July 1.

Association of Young Journalist and Writers Scholarships

$2,000 scholarships annually given to college and graduate students who are studying journalism or English. Deadline: May 31.

Adelante! Fellowship

Fellowship for an early career journalist who is bilingual in Spanish and English and wishes to pursue a master's degree in journalism at the prestigious Missouri School of Journalism. The successful applicant will act as editor of the journalism school's award-winning bilingual publication, Adelante! Fellowship includes full tuition waiver and $10,000 stipend. Deadline: September 1.

Yarka Vendrinska Photojournalism Memorial Fund Scholarship

The family of Mark and Tanya Bohr, who established the Yarka Vendrinska Photojournalism Memorial Fund for their daughter Yarka, offer an annual scholarship of $2000 to emerging photojournalists who demonstrate financial need to continue their careers. Deadline: April 1.

Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation Scholarships

Individual scholarships up to $3,500 per academic year to juniors and seniors majoring in television and film. Deadline: March 15.

Richard G. Zimmerman Scholarship

$5,000 scholarship offered by the National Press Club to a high school senior who wants to pursue a career in journalism. Applicants must have a 3.0 grade average and plan to attend college this year. Deadline: March 1.

Feldman Fellowship for Graduate Studies in Journalism

The National Press Club offers a one-year stipend of $5,000 to defray post-graduate tuition costs for graduate students in journalism. Deadline: May 1.

Associated Press Sports Editors Scholarship

APSE, a national organization of sports editors, is sponsoring four $1,500 scholarships. College students entering their sophomore, junior or senior years are eligible for the scholarship, which will awarded based on the students' journalistic work, their academic record, financial need, and geography. The scholarships will be awarded to students from four different regions of the United States. Deadline: June 1.

Center for Public Integrity Fellowship

Fellows enroll as full-time students at American University's School of Communication in Washington, D.C., earning a master's degree in journalism, while pursuing investigative projects at the Center for 12 to 20 hours each week. The fellowship provides a full tuition scholarship plus a stipend of $24,000. Candidates must have at least four full years of professional experience. Deadline: March 15.

CollegeScholarships.org's Political Blogging Scholarship

Annual contest awards scholarships up to $2,000 for U.S. college students who maintain political blogs. Deadline: February.

CollegeScholarships.org's The Blogging Scholarship

Annual competition awards scholarships up to $10,000 to U.S. college students who blog. Deadline: October 30.

James Lawrence Fry Scholarship

$2,500 award for undergraduates pursuing a degree in Communication, Law, and Radio/TV Broadcasting. Deadline: January 31

Fulbright Fellowship Program

The Fulbright Program, widely considered one of the most prestigious scholarship programs worldwide, is available in 155 countries for students who want to pursue graduate studies. Several international journalism scholarships are available.

City University London Scholarships

Guardian Media Group, British Broadcasting Corporation, Channel 4 and many other organizations sponsor a variety of scholarships for students pursuing a master’s degree in journalism at City University. Both UK and non-U.K. students are eligible.

Columbia University Journalism School Fellowships

Columbia University in New York offers several scholarships for international students that cover up to full-tuition. For example, Jack R. Howard Fellowships in International Journalism cover full tuition and living expenses for two international journalists from developing or transitional countries. To qualify for the fellowship candidates must reside outside the United States and intend to return to their homeland after graduation.

Luke 1:3 Journalism Scholarship

Patrick Henry College, a Christian college in Virginia, is offering a four-year, full-tuition scholarship for an applicant who plans to study journalism. Deadline: February 1.

Orerbro University Global Journalism Scholarship

Orerbro, a university in Sweden, offers an all-expenses paid scholarship for its 2-year master's degree program in global journalism. Travel, accommodation, insurance and other living expenses are also covered. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, two years experience as a journalist and know English. Deadline: February 1.

Russell-Rice TRA Sports Writing Scholarship

Four-year, $40,000 scholarship to Vanderbilt University is awarded to a high school senior with special interest and potential in the field of sports writing.

Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarships

Three $10,000 scholarships to "support and encourage aspiring undergraduate and graduate students to pursue careers in children's media." In addition to the monetary award, successful applicants are mentored by children's programming professionals during the academic year. Deadline: late February.
